Congratulations to the Washington Area Women’s Foundation on the success of their inaugural Girls LEAD Summit. The all-day event for young women and girls between the ages of 12-24 was held at the University of the District of Columbia. Award-winning journalist, media personality and former editor-in-chief of Teen Vogue, Elaine Welteroth, served as the keynote speaker.

Hosted by the Young Women’s Advisory Council of the Young Women’s Initiative at the Washington Area Women’s Foundation, the GirlsLEAD Summit will be an opportunity for young women and girls residing in the District of Columbia to learn, connect, gain valuable skills and lift their voices on the issues that are important to them through general sessions, workshops and speed mentoring opportunities.

“We are thrilled to welcome over 300 young women and girls and over 200 women leaders to our first GirlsLEAD Summit,” said Jennifer Lockwood-Shabat, president and CEO of Washington Area Women’s Foundation. “The Summit is created for and by girls and we know that their work and perseverance will create an unforgettable day of learning, build and connecting.”
